Nothing is more frustrating than having spent all that time to get someone recruited onto your team and then not have them get any sales and quit. Can it be avoided?

Yes and No.

While a home-based business/Direct Sales/MLM is ideal for anyone, not everyone is suited for them. Some people think that you can join a company, do nothing and sales are going to fall out of the sky and into their lap. When it doesn’t happen, they can’t figure out why and blame everyone else except where the responsibility lies and that is with them.

For most people, the reason that they don’t get sales is because they just don’t know how and that is where this blog post comes in. Let’s cover some suggestions that you can use to help your team members get those first few sales.

1. Learn Their Style

Some people are more old school. They like physical brochures, materials and home parties. They do things over the phone and face to face. They aren’t techy and don’t really use social media.

Other people love the online world and social media and could care less if they ever saw a physical brochure. They are quite comfortable networking over social media and have a vast group of people to contact.

Then there are those in the middle who like and are comfortable with both.

2. Make Sure They Have the Material They Need Tweet This

If you give someone who is an online person only physical material, you will not see any results from them and vice versa. Once you know their style you can provide them what THEY need to succeed. You may only be comfortable in one style, but if you want to grow a thriving team, then you need to become versatile in both ways.

Also, be generous in physical materials. Yes, they do cost money and some people will waste them. But it is an investment in your business. In my years of experience, if I give my new team member 10 books, they will get out 7-8 and have 2-3 orders. Most times that is not enough to reach that first level where they earn rewards. They get discouraged and quit because they think it just doesn’t work.

If I give them 15 books, they will get out 10-12 and 6-7 orders. They have earned some rewards, made some money and are excited to do more. Those few extra books makes all the difference to their success.

3. Raise Your Expectations

In your company, if a good start is a $200 order to get all the goodies, then tell your new recruits that they need a $250 order. Most new reps will work to reach that goal, but many won’t quite reach it. So, if you make it a bit higher and they make it most of the way, they will actually reach the true goal.

You also need to change your mindset about your new Reps. If all you ever think is that you can’t find anyone good and that they never do anything, that is the people you will recruit. Your subconscious mind is a funny thing. It has been proven that your brain will work to make come true the things you believe in your heart will happen. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy. You won’t realize that you are doing it but it will happen.

If on the other hand, you believe that you are going to find awesome, hard-working reps who love what they do, for the most part, you will.

4. Have Regular Contact with Them

Find out how they like to communicate best (phone, email, text, Facebook Message) and then check in with them on a regular basis. Many times, when they are having problems they won’t come and tell you because they don’t want to feel foolish. But if you contact them and let them know that there are no stupid questions except the ones that are not asked, they will open up to you and you can help them solve their problems before it becomes an issue that causes them to quit.

By doing all these things, you increase the chances of your new team members not only staying but thriving as well. Choose to invest your time and energy into your new members and over time you will see the rewards of it.

1. Create two Wish Lists:

The first wish list you create is with your Hostess. This helps her to set goals for the party and she will work harder because she knows exactly what she wants and what she needs to do to get it.
The second wish list is the one that the guests fill out and you keep. This makes the selling process easier because you already have of list of things they like, plus you can call them back a couple of weeks after the party, see how they are liking the products they received and suggest further purchases based on their wish list, increasing your overall sales.

2. Give Your Hostess Instructions:

Not everybody is a natural hostess and not everybody is organized. Give clear, simple to understand instructions and contact her with reminders of what to do up to the time of the party. Don’t just through a bunch of stuff in her lap and expect her to have a great show. You can also do things like offer to mail out the invitations for her, or help her create a Facebook event. All these things will make the show more successful.

3. Serve Food Before The Party Begins:Tweet This

The reason for this is simple. You don’t want everyone distracted with eating when they should be shopping. If you serve the food at the end (especially if it is in a different room), everyone will move to the food and away from your products and you will get less sales.

4. When Taking Orders Let Everyone Mill Around:

Don’t take orders privately. Do it at the table with everyone watching. As people ask questions you can answer them for everyone and you will be amazed at how other people will encourage the one placing the order to buy more.

5. K.I.S.S:

Keep It Short and Simple. Don’t make your presentation long and boring. People have so much on the go and the last thing they want to do at a party is listen to a long-winded presentation. Keep it to 30-45 minutes and incorporate interactive things like games and demonstrations.

If there was something that 2014, 2015 and 2016 have taught me it is this, “No obstacle can stay in my way for long, if I continue to grow my belief, always focus on the solution and never stop doing the actions for success.”

Canadian Thanksgiving was just a few weeks ago and the US Thanksgiving is coming up and it got me thinking about the wild turkeys that live in my neighbourhood. Did you know that they are dumbest, smart bird I have ever known. During hunting season you can’t find them anywhere, and during the rest of the year they stand on the road and make YOU wait for them to move. You can honk, you can move forward slowly, but they won’t move until they want to, and there is never just one of them. I have been late for appointments waiting for Mom and all the young ones to cross the road.

So I decided to read up on them and I found some interesting parallels between them and running a MLM/ Network Marketing/Direct Sales business.

1. Wild turkeys thrive when they live in a protected area with an open field or space beside it. They forage in the open space for food, but can quickly get to cover when it is needed. For us that means that we need a place that we can go to when things get tough. You always go out and look for new people, build your team and your business, but have that place whether physically, mentally or spiritually where you can recharge and motivate yourself. Attacks in this business will come, and they can be on the outside or on the inside and you need to be prepared to guard yourself and combat those attacks when they come or you won’t be in this business for very long.

2. Wild Turkeys can roost and rest in trees. It gives them covering, protection and a unique perspective on the whole world around them. Do you take time to rest? Rest not only recharges your body but your brain as well and helps give you perspective on yourself and your business. I always know when I haven’t taken enough rest. Everything becomes harried and I can’t stop thinking about all the things I need to do and on and on it goes. When I take rest it allows my mind to settle and I actually get more things done.

3. Varied VocalizationsTweet This
Wild Turkeys can make many different sounds to communicate with other turkeys. The first time I heard the young ones I couldn’t figure out what kind of bird it was because it was so unique. In MLM you need to have many different ways to communicate so that you can draw as many people to your business as possible. Build you team locally, build it online, find ways to connect with people that you normally wouldn’t associate with. If you are only prospecting one way then you are missing out on a lot of business.

4. They Have Lots Of Different Food Sources.
Wild Turkeys will eat seeds, foliage, berries, bugs and small reptiles, which is probably why they like my backyard. It has all of them including the snakes (just little garter snakes no longer than my forearm and they don’t bite.) What food are you feeding your mind, soul and spirit? The most successful people are the ones with the biggest libraries. They are constantly learning and growing not only their skills, but more importantly in their capacity for success. Make it a goal to learn something about yourself each day and to grow as person and you will see more success.

5. Great Daytime Vision, Poor Night Time Vision
Turkeys can see better than people in the daytime, but not as well as us in the night. So how does that apply to us? Simple. Turkeys know their weaknesses and protect themselves accordingly. They go out to eat in the early morning when most other animals are a sleep and they sleep in trees at night when there enemies are awake. Pretty smart, huh? We all have weaknesses in our business. Things that we don’t do well or we just don’t really like to do. So instead on focusing all your time and energy trying to make your weaknesses stronger, why don’t you work your strengths, get results and pay someone to do the things you can’t. Instead of being frustrated you will feel liberated.
So there you have it. Probably never would of thought that you have something in common with turkeys did you?

In the first post we talk about setting goals and I just wanted to add two more things to that. When you are setting your goals always set them just beyond what you believe in your heart you can do. If you want to become really successful you are going to have to grow in not only your skills but your ability to conquer new things.

By making your goals just beyond your reach you are going to have to stretch yourself to do reach them and when you do that you will find the next level of success is closer then what you think.

The other thing is that you can use the same formula to figure out how many customers that you need to reach sales goal as well, so this is not just for building a team.

And I can’t stress that enough. Here’s the thing. Nobody I know wakes up in the morning and goes, “Yeah, I have to go prospecting today.” In fact it is something that most people dread and that is because they don’t realize that prospecting is the key to success and something they should be excited about.

I think one of the things that stop people from prospecting is the fact that they haven’t found a way of doing that they like. I find that most people tend to have one or two ways that they really do well in, but if they haven’t figured out which ones they like best then they get frustrated and bored with recruiting and quit.

So the two mains to prospect is offline (locally) and online and you need to figure out which one works best for you. You can’t go by what others tell you is the best way and there will be times where you are going to have to do it differently from your leader and that is ok. The main thing is to find the one that works for you and then do it on a consistent basis to achieve results.

As we end 2015 you can do one of two things. You can take a realistic look at your business this year both the good and bad and learn from it to grow in 2016, or you can sit back in hopelessness and say that nothing is going to change so why bother even trying.

The first attitude will bring you success, the second will leave you in despair and hopelessness and you will end 2016 in worse shape then 2015.

No matter what you 2015 was like, you have the choice of what your 2016 is going to look like. If 2015 wasn’t the best year then shake it off. You can’t change what happened and focusing on it will only leave you feeling like a failure. Instead focus on the actions you can take to start to build momentum and move your business forward.

What Are The Two Things You Need To Start The Year Off Right?

A Plan & Action To Go Along With It

Sounds simple doesn’t it? That’s because it is. Many times we make things way more complicated than it is. So in this post we are going to cover how to make a plan. In the first post of the New Year we will look at the actions to go along with it.

So how to do make a plan? Take a look at these 6 steps.

  1. Where Do You Want To Be At The End Of the Year?

How many levels in leadership or sales do you want to go up in by the end of the year? Picture it, imagine it. See yourself there. What will it feel like? These are all important things to cement that in your mind. It will help you when things get tough.

  1. How Many Customers/Recruits/Leaders Do You Have To Add To Make It Happen?

Knowing exactly what you need to do will help you know if your goal is achievable. Not sure exactly what you need? Talk to someone higher up in your business and find out. Here is an example to show you how the numbers work. I am using numbers from my company. Let’s say that you need 5 leaders to make the level that you want and that it takes 10 new recruits to get 1 leader. That means that you need 50 recruits in a year to get the leaders that you need. Now let’s go to step 3.

  1. Figure out what you need to do on a weekly basis?

Since you now know that you need 50 recruits in the year, you take your total and divide it by 50 (you always allow yourself a couple of weeks off a year) that means that you need to recruit one person a week to reach your goal by the end of the year.

  1. Figure out what you need to do on a daily basis?

So now you know that you need to recruit one person a week to reach your goals.

Do you know how many people you need to talk to, to get that one person? For me it is 1 in 7 to 1 in 10 depending on the time of year. So if I want one recruit, I need to talk to 10 people. If you don’t know your numbers or are new and inexperienced then go with 1 in 30. If you plan for that you will find recruits. So for 10 people that means that you need to talk to 2 people everyday, 5 days a week. For 30 it means that you have to talk to 6 people a day.

  1. Decide if this is something that you will be able to accomplish on a continuous basis.

The point of this exercise is to make a plan that is doable with the time and resources you have. It’s great to say that all you need to do is talk to ten people a week, but are you really going to do it? That’s the real question. If you feel that it is too much then go back to the beginning and set a lower goal and figure it out from there. Keep doing it until you come up with a number that you believe you can accomplish. It is better to have a smaller goal that you achieve then a larger goal that you give up on because deep down inside you know that you can’t do it. Once you have done that then go onto step 6.

  1. Write A Plan In Your Agenda With The Actions You Are Going To Do Each Day.

This is very important if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail. Also make sure that you vary the types of prospecting that you do, so that it doesn’t get boring.

It’s not hard to do but is does take a little bit of time. Once you have done it once or twice it becomes a whole lot easier.

You’ve spent time to create this wonderful Facebook page, you’ve got some pretty decent content and there are people who have liked you. And then what?
NOTHING
Nobody is engaging your page and you are wondering if anyone is even seeing what you are posting? And the answer is probably not.
Facebook has a formula called Edgerank for figuring out how much of what you post gets seen by the people who have liked you.

I was when I first heard about it. I just figured that everybody got everything I posted, but that is not the case. Edgerank is determined by 3 factors, Affinity, Weight, and Time Decay. Affinity is how connected the person is who has liked your page. So have they liked any of your posts, have they commented, tagged or shared a post before. Weight is determined by the type of post you make. Text only, questions, video or photo. Time Decay is just how it sounds. How long has that post been there.
So how do you check your Edgerank? There is a free tool at www.edgerankchecker.com where you can get a basic ranking on your page. Any score over 20 is considered excellent. It works best when you have at least 100 likes on your page. Under that the score won’t be as accurate.
It doesn’t matter if you score is 0 or 100 everyone needs to increase their Edgerank. In fact it is vital to your business that you do. Interaction is the Key. Social media is about relationships, and out of those interactions that you have comes business. So no relationship, no business.
So what are some ways to increase your interaction and your Edgerank?
1. Post once to twice a day and make your post interesting. Something that your fans will benefit from.
2. If someone leaves you a comment, respond back. Remember it is all about relationship, relationship, relationship.
3. 90% of your posts should include a photo. Photo’s automatically get viewed by more people. What get the most views are videos so you need to include them too.
4. Change your cover image regularly. Get creative. Make then stunning, but remember to follow Facebook’s rules or you could get your page banned.
5. Ask questions. Have call to actions. Ask then to respond to what you have posted.
6. Hold contests. There are lots of apps out there that you can use to hold contests on Facebook.
7. Every once in a while give your fans a chance to shine on your page by highlighting them and what they do.

Here is what most MLMer’s are notorious for. They work really hard in the fall and Christmas season. They are so exhausted by Christmas time that they take January and February off and do almost nothing. By March they are starting to get back into it again and by May are starting to see some results. Then June hits and ‘Oh well’ it’s summer and I have too many other things I want to do like going to the beach and vacation and then nothing gets done. By the end of the summer they need money because their business has dropped off and they start the cycle all over again.
Wouldn’t be great if you just continually grew your business over the whole year and then just take several wonderful vacations throughout the year?
There is also the misconception that no one joins a MLM company in the summer so why bother even trying. If that were true then most companies would go out of business. Summer can be a slower time (because almost no one is recruiting), but that doesn’t mean that it is impossible to recruit someone. I do some of my best recruiting in the summer because people are more relaxed and less rushed.
Here is another thing to think about. Loss of momentum. If you truly want to build a business that is going to support you financially then you need to create momentum so that you move up levels. Stopping and starting your business over and over again causes you to…
1. Never get to the point where you hit momentum and make real money.
2. Every time you do it you actually get farther behind and it takes longer to just get to the point where you were when you stopped.
So what can you do? I know that you want to enjoy your summer. Who doesn’t? But did you realize that you can easily incorporate your business into your summer activities and that in many ways it is easier because you are around so many people?
When you got to the parks and beaches and stores, just make a point of talking to a couple of people about your business. That’s it. If you do you will have recruits throughout the whole summer and you will start off your fall way ahead.
I am a numbers person and love to see the results of things numerically. So think about this.
Say in June, July and August you talk to 2 people a day and recruit 6 people over the summer and let’s say that you earn $20/month from each person. Between September and December you will earn almost $500 from those six people alone. Wouldn’t an extra $500 at Christmas time be nice and that is only if those six people don’t recruit anyone. What if 3 of them just recruited 1 person? That is now 9 people and $700 extra dollars in your pocket by December.
You don’t have to make it difficult, you just have to be consistent. Take the opportunities that come along and just TALK TO PEOPLE and see the results. You will be glad you did.
