In my last blog post we talked about creating momentum in your business and what that means. We also looked at an example that shows how to build momentum with your recruiting and team building. Lots of people enjoyed the article, but I had a request from one of my faithful readers (thanks Daga) to show how that works in the sales side of the business. So today, here is part two.

So just for a quick review, here is one of the definitions that Webster’s Dictionary uses for momentum:

 “The strength or force that allows something to continue or to grow stronger or faster as time passes.”

 So how does that apply to your sales business? For me it applies two ways. The first is to get more customers and the second is to sell more to the customers that you already have. 

So Let’s Take A Look At How To Build Momentum And Have Your Customers Get Customers For You.

 Like everything else you need to start the process and do a lot of work ahead of time. If you are an awesome rep for your company and you provide great service it is easy to get your customers to promote you. I am not sure what the average numbers would be, but let’s say that 1 in 10 of your customers will bring you in five customers a year. So that’s 15 customers for every ten customers you get yourself.

So if you are doing the right actions and out there prospecting and adding new customers and then taking care of them, if you ask your customers for referrals or to share your materials around to get more business, THEY WILL DO IT. I can tell you it works because 25% of my customer base has come from referrals from my customers.

 I have gotten phone calls from people who got my book from a friend or family member who wanted to order products. I have customers ask me to drop off a brochure to a friend because they had talked to their friend and they wanted to order. All because I let them know that I could use the business.

 And then…

 I rewarded them for getting me that customer and guess what? They would get me other customers because they liked how I thanked them. 

Now How Do You Get Them To Buy More? Tweet This

Getting your customers to buy more is actually an easy process, but it is something that few people do because they don’t want to be seen as pushy and that is ask for it.

First of all, if you have a great relationship with your customers and you provide great service to them, they will trust you to make recommendations on products that you think they will like.

 Over the years I have had customers thank me for recommending products because they were thinking about trying it but wasn’t sure about it and by me telling them about it, they tried it and liked it. The ones that they didn’t like, I gave them their money back no questions asked.

 The best way to build momentum in your sales is to be selling consumable products that people use and come back for again and again. So the more products you get them on the more your sales increase exponentially because they will be ordering it several times a year.

 For example:

 1 Customer x One $25 product x Purchased 3 Times A Year = $75 In Sales Per Year

 1 Customer x Four $25 products x Purchased 3 Times A Year = $300 In Sales Per Year

 1 Customer x Ten $25 product x Purchased 3 Times A Year = $750 In Sales Per Year

 Here is the point. The more products you can get one customer on the less work that there is for you and the more that customer will be contacting you for their favourite products instead of you contacting them. Now just imagine what happens to your sales when you have 10, 20 or 50 customers purchasing 10 products each, three times a year. If you had 50 customers doing that you would have $37 500 in sales for the year.

Using Technology To Streamline The Process

Now as you are doing this you will hit the point where there are two many customers and too much WORK to do to maintain them. That is where technology comes in. With today’s advanced in technology it makes it easier then ever to be able to promote your business to many people at the same time. For example:

– Create an email list with all your customers (with their permission of course) and email them reminders of when it is time to order and specials that are available. There are also some group texting apps out there where you do the same thing and send it to their phone.

– If your company has E-Brochures use them as much as possible to not only cut down on delivery times, but costs as well.

– If your company does it, have your orders shipped directly to the customers that live a little farther away saving you a lot of driving time.

– Use social media to promote your business and get customers instead of having to go out and find them. You can also use social media to promote specials you have going on and create some buzz about it.

 As you gain momentum it is always better to work smarter, not harder. What is the use of all this momentum if you are burnt out and never see your family? There are ways to sell more with the same amount of work, you just have to be creative and find them.

 When you combine both getting new customers and selling more to the customers that you already have you will have an awesome business where you are leveraging not only your own efforts but the efforts of others as well and that is a sweet place to be.

If momentum were a real person he would be the one that everyone wants to meet and get to know. In fact he would be the most popular person in the room. That’s because when momentum becomes a part of your business you are in for wild ride as your business gets shot forward at a very fast speed.

 In Webster’s Dictionary one of the definitions of momentum is,

“The strength or force that allows something to continue or to grow stronger or faster as time passes.”

Just think about that for a minute, let it sink in. How would you like your business to be growing stringer and faster every single day and most of it NOT DONE BY YOU. That is what happens when momentum is your friend.

Momentum happens when you leverage the power of many people versus just one. Let me give you an example…

Let’s say that you are continually prospecting and talking to 3 people a day, 5 days a week and you are getting 1 recruit a week for the entire year and two of those people become leaders who build a steady business too. And say you did that for three years, here is what it would look like.

 

Year One

52 Team Members & 2 Leaders

Year Two

156 Team Members & 6 Leaders

Year Three

470 Team Members & 14 Leaders

 

And over those three years you would have only recruited 156 of them.

Now start to imagine what will happen when you hit the five year mark and then the 10 year mark. It would be explosive. You would be able to live comfortably for a very long time on what you would make from those people. Unfortunately, I can’t give you totals beyond three years because my piece of paper wasn’t big enough to figure it all out! I wish I was a mathematician at times so I could create a formula for it LOL.

So how do you become best friends with momentum and get him to help you in your business? By becoming best friends with his two best friends Action and Consistency and they can be very hard to get to know.

Action is always going and moving and doing something. He doesn’t sit around for nothing and if you aren’t moving with him you will be left behind.

Consistency, well she is the quiet shy one whom you have to prove yourself to over the course of time. She will watch what you do with Action first and see if you are worthy of her friendship, but once you have it, she will introduce you to her friend Momentum and that is when the party starts.

It all starts with action. Are you doing the actions required to build your business? Are you getting your name out there as the go to person for your company? Are you prospecting both locally and online? And are you doing it on a consistent basis so that your business is growing all the time?

In the beginning it ALL RELIES ON YOU. Nobody is going to do it for you. If you are willing to pay the price by yourself at first, you will reap the harvest of many later.

Can I make a confession to you? For years I was the Queen of Procrastination. In fact I was so good at it that I could come up with incredible totally believable excuses as to why I didn’t get things done.

But it was killing all my hopes and dreams. :(

I wanted to be successful, I wanted to achieve things that very few other people did…
But as long as procrastination was my best friend that wasn’t going to happen.

So I made one of the hardest decisions of my life.

I broke up with procrastination and he didn’t like it and fought me tooth and nail to stay in my life.

It was a battle and there were days I won and days I lost.

So how did I get rid of him for good?

1. I recognized him for who he was. The enemy of everything I wanted in this life.
2. I made a conscious decision that I wasn’t going to be that person anymore.
3. I made realistic goals with daily actionable steps instead of grandiose dreams
4. I started out small by doing 1 thing each day that I procrastinated doing the most.
5. I prayed for strength A LOT!!!
6. I started recognizing my negative thought patterns and changed them.
7. I stopped and looked at each choice I was making and weighed the consequences of them. This one alone really motivated me to start taking more action.

Over the course of time I also came to realize that one of the main reasons why I procrastinated was fear. I was afraid that if I really tried and failed it would prove what I truly thought about myself and that I was failure.

But…

Here is what I learnt as I started to take more and more action.
– Action brings results
– Failure at something doesn’t mean that I am a failure, only that I need to learn more.
– That I can succeed at things.

Can I say that I have reached all my goals and dreams yet?
No…
But I am a whole lot closer now than I was 5 years ago and I have reached some of them and one of them was YOU.

You see, I wanted to help people become the very best entrepreneurs they could be and to make a difference in their lives. When you read my blog posts you help me reach my goal and I want to say thanks.

Here is one other thing I did and that is I made myself accountable to other people to accomplish my goals. They had the right at any time to check in on me and see if I was doing what I was supposed to be doing. Talk about motivation. I knew they would ask me and I hated not having anything to show for it, so I forced myself to do things so I would look good.

Now though, I find I want to things and when I procrastinate for too long it eats at me and I have to get up and do it.

In the first post we talk about setting goals and I just wanted to add two more things to that. When you are setting your goals always set them just beyond what you believe in your heart you can do. If you want to become really successful you are going to have to grow in not only your skills but your ability to conquer new things.

By making your goals just beyond your reach you are going to have to stretch yourself to do reach them and when you do that you will find the next level of success is closer then what you think.

The other thing is that you can use the same formula to figure out how many customers that you need to reach sales goal as well, so this is not just for building a team.

There is one thing that is absolutely vital to your business and it is the thing that most people just won’t do. It is the key difference between the successful and the unsuccessful and that is…

Now were expecting some sort of magical, mystical thing or an extraordinary quality that only a ‘select few’ has that allows you to make excuses as to why you are not succeeding?

The reality is if you want to build a business and reap the financial success and recognition that you want you are going to have to put in the sweat hours of continually prospecting.

PROSPECTING IS THE ONE MANDATORY ACTION YOU NEED FOR YOUR BUSINESS!!!

And I can’t stress that enough. Here’s the thing. Nobody I know wakes up in the morning and goes, “Yeah, I have to go prospecting today.” In fact it is something that most people dread and that is because they don’t realize that prospecting is the key to success and something they should be excited about.

I think one of the things that stop people from prospecting is the fact that they haven’t found a way of doing that they like. I find that most people tend to have one or two ways that they really do well in, but if they haven’t figured out which ones they like best then they get frustrated and bored with recruiting and quit.

So the two mains to prospect is offline (locally) and online and you need to figure out which one works best for you. You can’t go by what others tell you is the best way and there will be times where you are going to have to do it differently from your leader and that is ok. The main thing is to find the one that works for you and then do it on a consistent basis to achieve results.

For me this is the most exciting time of year and the time of year that sets the pace that will determine my success for the rest of the year.
September is here! Yeah!!! And the question I have for you is, “Are you ready?”
You see the sooner that you start to prepare the more you will get out of it. Things quickly get busy in the fall season and you are going to miss out on opportunities because you didn’t take the time to prepare now.
So what sort of things should you be preparing?
1. YOUR GOALS
We are coming up to the time of year when you can get the most results for the least amount of work. People have had their rest and spent their money and now need a way to make more as the Christmas season approaches. How many people do you want to recruit between now and Christmas? How many new customers do you want to add? How much money do you want to be making by the end of the year? These are all great things to figure out when you are not in the rush of the season. They should be firmly set, so that as the season progresses you keep yourself going in the right direction and you don’t get distracted by other things.
2. YOUR SCHEDULE
This one is the most important. You need to determine now when things are still quieter how much time you are going to have to work on your business. Get a monthly calendar and put these things in it.
Your work schedule (if you have one)
• All your family’s activities (such as sports, extracurricular, religious) anything that happens on a regular basis
• Appointments (Doctor, Dentist, Bank, Hair Dresser) anything that you already have booked
• Prospecting times
• Regular team training times
• Other business activities that you do
One way that is useful for helping to keep everything on track is to highlight you schedule according to what category it falls under. So you can use one colour for work schedule, one for family and appointments and then another colour for your business activities. This makes it very easy to determine in one glance what is going on in your day.
3. YOUR MATERIALS
Have you received your Fall brochures, catalogues or recruiting material yet? This is a great time to get it all ready and if you have kids get them to help you. I know by this time in the summer my kids when they were little were getting bored and looking for fun things to do, so I let them help me and it got done quickly. Then when the time came to hand them out I wasn’t scrambling to get it ready in the midst of all the other things I had to do.
4. TRAINING
Do you need training in a specific area to help boost your business in the fall. The beginning of fall is a great time to figure out where your weak areas are then get yourself a program that is going to help you in that area. 5. SELF CONFIDENCE & SELF ESTEEM.
It is reported that 85% of people in North America suffer from it and they don’t have to.
There are ways to overcome it. I had to overcome it. In fact, if I hadn’t you wouldn’t be reading this blog post, because I never would have had the courage to write it!
When I finally realized that I didn’t have to let how I felt about myself stop me from doing anything I wanted in life, it totally changed me from the inside out. No longer did I say to myself, “I can’t do this.” Now I say, “What do I need to learn to be able to accomplish this goal and where can I find the training I need to do it?” I don’t look at how impossible it is, I look at the first step I can take to start moving myself towards it and YOU CAN LEARN HOW TO AS WELL.
It takes time and effort, but the best thing you can do is recognize what is there and start to change it.

So now is the time for you to get started and working for a great Christmas season.

This summer has flown by and I can believe that we are already close to the end of August.

I am working on three projects that I hope are going to be of real help to you. One of them I will tell you about on Monday or Tuesday.

The other two are books that I hope to release around the beginning of September and the will be free to you as a thank you for being such a great supporter.

So now that we got the update done, onto today’s training.

As an entrepreneur it can be hard to keep yourself motivated and encouraged because in most cases it is only you. It can also be hard because most times our families just don’t get it. They think it should be easy because we don’t have a boss over us keeping us going and that is why it is hard!

We are accountable to only ourselves and if things are going bad we don’t have the motivation of being fired to keep us going.

So how do you keep yourself encouraged when things are hard?

1. Take Your Eyes Off Of The Problem
I know it may sound weird, but when you focus only on the problem it becomes bigger and bigger until it overwhelms you. Instead focus only on the solution. Brainstorm ideas on what can work to solve your problem and many times you will at least start to find the answer.

2. Be Thankful
Thankfulness has an incredible power in our life to change what seems insurmountable into something that can be overcome with time and patience. When we are grateful for what we have we open ourselves up to more.

3. Educate Yourself
Many times we run into obstacles because of things we do not know how to do. Many times I have been frustrated because of technical issues that seemed to be so daunting. I always would have to step back and realise that if someone else has done it so can I and I go to Google and type in my answer.
Many times the answer comes up and I can go on with my day or with bigger problems at least it gives me a place to start.

4. Pray
Now for some of you this will not apply and if you don’t believe in God I respect that, but for those of us that do, prayer is a powerful force that can peace and wisdom to any situation because the God who created everything has an answer for you.

I wish that I could tell that it is always easy to keep yourself encouraged, but that would be a lie. Some days it is hard work, but if you want to reach the success that you want then you need to do it or you will quit. So cheer up, there are better times ahead.

One of the things I love about MLM is the fact that it is a business, but unlike other businesses you don’t have the massive outlay of money to get it started and you don’t have to create everything from scratch. You can literally plug yourself in and start seeing results right away!

That being said, success will not be handed to you on a silver platter with no effort on your part. There are some things you need to do to ensure that you become successful and we are going to look at 5 of them in this post.

1. You Have To Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone
If you aren’t willing to learn and grow as a person, you will never be able to handle success. This is a journey and at each level there will be new things to challenge you that you will have to overcome.

2. Most Success Happens In The 3lbs Of Grey Matter Between Your Ears.
Believe it or not, success isn’t about what you have to deal with on the outside, it has everything to do with how you think feel and then act on that belief. Most people sabotage their own success because they don’t truly believe that they deserve it.

3. It Is Your Responsibility
The only way that you are going to succeed is if you take responsibility for your entire business both good and bad. Never place the blame for what happens on other people and what they did or did not do.

4. Be Willing To Provide Value Without Expecting Anything Back
The way to build this business to go above and beyond what anyone else does without expectation of getting something back. Give and it shall be given unto you. Do it because you care, not because you expect something in return and you will have more success then you can handle.

5. If You Do Nothing Else Be Consistent In Prospecting
This is the most important part of all. If you aren’t prospecting then your business isn’t growing but shrinking. This is the most required action and the one that is the least done. Successful MLMer’s are always prospecting they have done it so much it is in their blood.

Many years ago, I was very discouraged in my business and I was struggling to get even minor results.

I felt guilty, I felt unworthy, I felt like everyone else could do it and I was the dummy that couldn’t. Just being honest.

I looked at everyone else’s success and I wanted it for myself, but I truly believed that only special, talented people could have it and I wasn’t any of those.

Even though that is what I thought deep down inside, God wanted more for me and He gave me an entrepreneurial spirit that just wouldn’t quit. So even though I didn’t believe in myself, that still small voice nagged me and wouldn’t let me quit.

I still can’t remember to this day how it happened, but I came across an incredible MLM teacher called Doug Firebaugh and after listening to him teach for the first time, I had hope again.

Do you spend a lot of time chasing after people who really don’t want to be a part of your business and feel frustrated because of it?

Were you taught that everyone needs your business and that you can change everyone’s lives? That it is your job to convince them?

What about quantity is better than quality?

How about recruit, recruit, recruit, throw them up against the wall like mud and see who sticks?

I am so tired of all the things that people are taught that only create frustration and ultimately cause people to quit.

I spent so many years barking up the wrong tree and wondering why I was such a failure.

While I do believe in talking to a lot of people about my business and I do, I don’t chase people anymore that aren’t right for my business.

Part of my journey to success was having someone who recognized my potential and believed in me, and if you don’t have someone like that then you definitely need to read today’s post.

There are times when people make fun of your dreams and try to steal your joy. They think that there is no way that you can accomplish it, but I want you to know that I Believe In You.
There will times when you will come across obstacles and things that will try to block your path and you have to make a choice, to give in or become better, stronger and faster and when that time comes know that I Believe In You.
There will be times when everything in you says that this is too hard and that you are not strong enough to reach that goal and when that happens know that I Believe In You.
There will be times when the way is unclear and you are not sure which way to go because there are either too many options or not the option that you want. Know that I Believe In You to make the right choice.
I Believe In You because deep down inside you know that you were created for greatness and success. There is something in you that just won’t quit no matter what may come your way.
I Believe In You because you have been given special gifts and abilities from God that He wants you to use to make a change in this world starting with yourself.
And lastly, I Believe In You because you are worth believing in.

Don’t forget to remind yourself today that YOU ARE WORTHY and that there is nothing that can stop you unless you let it.
