“No. Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.”
Yoda, Star Wars

Was 2016 a year of change and challenges for you? Was it a rough year where you never seemed to win or was it a year where breakthrough finally came? For me 2016 was my breakthrough year, but if you have been with me for any length of time you know that 2014 and 2015 were hard years, but I am thankful for them.

Now you may be asking yourself, “How can she be thankful for those hard years?” The answer is simple. Those years prepared me and made me strong enough to BREAKTHROUGH in 2016. The only way a muscle grows to be able to handle incredible weight and have immense strength is by pushing it beyond its limits which causes damage. It is the process of healing that damage that causes the muscles to grow.

Does it hurt? Yes, for a short period but what you get afterwards is worth it. So, if you want 2017 to be the year of BREAKTHROUGH in your life and business, then you need to start with an important concept.

Are you wanting, waiting and wishing or are you devoted, determined and doing?

Like Yoda says, you either, “Do or do not. There is no try.” Tweet This

So many times, I think that we ‘want to want,’ instead of do and achieve. We love to want things, like going on a vacation or buying a new car or having the time freedom to enjoy our families but are we willing to DO anything about it.

So, you might be saying to me, “But you don’t understand. I have this, this and this, standing in my way. There is no way that I can build the business I want in 2017. I just can’t.” If that is what you believe then you won’t. Sorry if I offended you but the truth hurts sometimes.

If there was something that 2014, 2015 and 2016 have taught me it is this, “No obstacle can stay in my way for long, if I continue to grow my belief, always focus on the solution and never stop doing the actions for success.”

My challenge for you in 2017 is this, get rid of all the things that are holding you back and take immense action that will propel you forward to either breakthrough or to a greater level of success and I want to help you do that.

In the next two weeks, I am going to be sending you a series of blog posts on making 2017 your best year ever. We are going to look at six things:

One thing I have learned with being married for 25 years, you need to have priorities in your life and my marriage is one of them. It takes time, effort and sacrifice to build a marriage that lasts. It is the same in your business.

How high of a priority is your business in your life? Do you book it like you would a job? Do you treat it like you would if you had a boss over you that could fire you?

If you want to build a business that gives you the financial success that you want, then you must be willing to pay the price for it.

I know that it can be hard when you work from home. There are so many distractions that can get in your way, so many things tempting you away from the things that bring true success.

The reality is that you do have enough time for your business, even part time, if you only work on the things that will produce results. We all have time wasters, things we do that take up long periods of time and give you nothing in return.

Want to figure out where you are wasting time? Tweet This

Then take this challenge. For the next 3 days, I want you to log everything you do in a day and how long you took doing it. After you have done that I want you to add up all the time you spent where you produced no results.

Now if you are a Mom with small children, then taking care of them is a big result and not a time waster.

Not sure what a time waster is? Check out my list and add them up?

-TV

-Social Media (not including posting for business or direct prospecting)

-Games (on your computer, online or on your phone)

-You Tube

– Reading (non business related books)

-Personal grooming (Anything over 1/2 hour a day, add to time wasters)

-Window Shopping

How many hours over the three days did you spend? Was it minutes or hours? Once you get into hours, you now know where the time is to build your business properly.

It is a matter of deciding what you want more, you time wasters or success. Truly successful people, know how to prioritize their time and only do what is need to get them where they want to be.

In the next blog post, we are going to look at what are the most important activities in your business that will get you the results that you want.

The last month has been a wonderful mix of crazy busy, overwhelmed by my to do list and then last Saturday was one of the best days of my life as I renewed my marriage vows with the man that I have loved for over 25 years.

It was an amazing day that I will never forget. We have just come back from our ‘honeymoon’ and I am ready to get back into action. Today, is my last day of vacation and I am at home semi-relaxing as I get ready to get back into the full swing of things on Monday.

So today and tomorrow, I will be getting a bunch of blog posts ready, full of great teaching to help you make the best of the summer months of your business. I will be taking lessons learned from my 25 years with my husband and show you how building a business can be one of the most difficult and rewarding things you will ever do.

I also have some projects that I have been working on, which will be released in July and August and here is a sneak peak.

– My women’s entrepreneurs productivity book is just about finished and I will be releasing it by the end of July with a free promotion.

– As another stream of income I have been in the process of creating colouring book, soduku books, word find books and others which will start to be released during the summer. I will be giving away free colouring and puzzle sheets that you can get every two weeks to print and have fun with. Look for an email soon with all the details.

– With so many things coming out I will be starting my own publishing company where I will provide inspirational, business and fun books. If you are an author and don’t know how to get your book published and it falls into one of these categories, reply back to this email and let’s see if I can help you.

I want you to know just how much I appreciate you and how you have followed me. This has been an incredible journey and I am so glad that you have been a part. Look for an email on Monday with Part 1 of making your summer business great.

Along with being an entrepreneur and an author, I have also been taking some time to ghostwrite books for other people. It is an additional source of income and something that I really enjoy doing because I get to learn and write about some pretty interesting subjects.

One book I am doing focuses on the analogy of softball and how it relates to women and finances and it got me thinking about something I once heard the late Jim Rohn say. He said on one of his MLM training cd’s that a baseball player will make millions of dollars a year, striking out 7 times out of 10 and we can too!

You Can Fail A Lot And Make Money

Share This:

So by failing a whole lot, you make a lot of money! When I first heard it something jumped in my spirit while my head said ‘no way that could work.’ It didn’t seem logical to my mind, but my soul knew better. It knew truth when it heard it.

So if you are wondering how it works, it is basically this. You talk to 10 people about your business in a week and only 3 say yes. In one year that is over 150 members added to your team.

Now lets say that you are still learning and you batting average is one out of ten, that is still 50+ people a year added to your team. Statistically in my company (which is probably a good industry standard) 1 in 20 people you recruit will become a good leader. So in one year you will have recruited 50+ people developed 3 leaders and they will have recruited a total of 15 people. So in one year you have 65 people on your team.

Year Two Is Even BetterTweet This

Now in year two things get better because your skills get better. So you personally recruit a 100 people and add on 5 more leaders to your team. The leaders that you recruited in the first year are recruiting regularly and they recruit 150 plus develop their own leaders. So by the end of year two you have potentially 320 team members. Now of course we all know that not everyone stays, so lets say 160 good team members. Where would that put you in your company? Would you be making lots of money? You would in my company and I am on my way there. My goal is to be past there by next summer.

Now Is The Time

I have learned how to easily recruit people, so now the big thing for me is to get the consistency that builds momentum that will build my future. Consistency is the key. It is the small daily and weekly actions that produce big results over a period of time. That is how the really successful people in your company do it. Everyday they are generating leads in many different ways, then converting some of those leads into recruits and then training them how to do the same. That’s how you win the game.

Now is the best time of year to be get your business going. Most people slack off in the spring and summer, so that means a lot less competition for you to find new team members. The great thing is while you are looking for new team members you will also find customers as well. Then by the time that the Fall/Christmas rush comes you will already be ahead of the game and you will reap fantastic results from it.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and fail, so that ultimately you will win.

 To your success,

Kim Thompson-Pinder

So some of you might be thinking that this is going to be some new age if you dream it, it will happen posts and I can guarantee you that is not what this is. What I am going to teach is scientifically proven and can change your life.

I was reading a book on happiness that looked at it from a Scriptural and scientific view and it really changed how I saw some things, so I am going to take what I learned from that and apply it to our business and share it with you.

So here we go, the concept is this…

Our brains create chemical patterns based on how we think and over time it is almost like grooves are created to make a path of least resistance so that we think the same way over and over again. So if you are a positive person then it creates a positive path. If you are negative, then it creates a negative path. Then your brain does everything possible to make come true the path that you have chosen.

Tweet This

When I learned that it blew me away. I realized that I was creating my own failure by the path that I allowed my thoughts to create and then worse of all I would speak it out confirming to myself that what I thought was true. There is a scripture that says, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Now I know that some of you don’t believe in God, but look at the principle taught here. What we hear creates faith in that thing. So if we are thinking doubt, fear, failure and then speak it out, it creates faith that that thing is going to happen and then your brain does everything possible to make it come true.

I want you to stop right now and take a serious look at your thought life and the words that you speak about your business. If you are thinking and speaking that you can’t, you are not able, you are too stupid, you aren’t good looking enough, I am too tall, short, fat, thin. I am a woman, or black, Hispanic or any other cultural group. I am not smart enough, I didn’t finish high school, no one ever believed in me, then you are going to fail guaranteed.

I can tell you from experience that this is true. When I think those things and allow them to take control in my life I fail, but the opposite is also true, when I think positive thoughts, when I speak positively some how I am able to do and achieve things I never thought possible. I also believe that when you think and speak positively that you open up the doors for God to be able to move and do great things because you are not hindering Him by your words, so He gets to add super to my natural.

So if you are thinking negatively what can you do about it? Well, the first and best thing is to recognize it and decide to change it. The second thing you do is to become aware of what you are thinking. Believe it or not we have a constant string of thoughts going through our head and many times we are not even aware of what is going on.

Here is an exercise for you. Get a pen and notepad and every time you have a negative thought put a tick in a notebook. Do that for about an hour and see how many times you are thinking negatively. You will be surprised by the results.

Third, once you become aware, now comes the hard part. Retraining your brain to create new paths and the longer that you have been thinking negatively the harder it can be, because the groves that you have to fight are deeper. Every time that you have a negative thought you need to recognize it and then replace it with a positive one. So if you think to yourself, “I can’t do this.” Then automatically correct yourself and say, “What am I saying of course I can do this.” Even better is to say it out loud.

Of course I do that when no one else is around or otherwise people would think that I am crazy. Over time your brain will start to create positive paths and it will become easier to think that way and then miracle happens, you start to act the way you think and the results follow that.

Imagine you increasing your results dramatically. You are selling and recruiting more, more money is coming into your household budget relieving some of the stress, you are happier and your family is happier too because you help set the pace for your family.

This is something that is powerful and if you truly use it to your advantage it will change your life forever. I know that it has changed mine.

To a life filled with more and more success,

Kim Thompson-Pinder

“If you want something you’ve never had, then you’ve got to do something you’ve never done.”

            Thomas Jefferson

When I started with my current company 8 1/2 years ago, I never knew how much I was going to have to change to become a person who succeeds. I also didn’t realize how strong I would end up being on the inside, and how things I thought impossible then, now happen on a regular basis. It has been a journey of discovering who I was in God and how to get rid of all the things that were holding me back. I know one thing for sure. I couldn’t have done it alone. The Lord wonderfully supplied people to help me at each stage.

I really love that quote above by Thomas Jefferson, but I think that something needs to be added to it. It should go something like this:

“If you want to achieve something you’ve never done before, then you need to become someone you’ve never been and do things you’ve never thought possible.”

                        Kim’s version

SUCCESS IS AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE. The sad thing is most people won’t DO what it takes to get there. Unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth and groomed to succeed from the time you were born, you are going to have to do it the way most of us have, by working as hard on yourself as you do on your business.

So what things did I have to work on?

Belief

For a long time I didn’t really believe that I could succeed. I always thought that you needed to be someone special, you know the typical popular type, who won all the time and everything came easy to them. One thing I knew for sure was that I wasn’t one of them. I had to come to realize that my perceptions had nothing to do with who could succeed and who couldn’t. Being successful has nothing to do with how you look or who people think you are. It has everything to do with who YOU believe you are and once I started to believe I could be successful, I saw some results which built my belief even more.

Procrastination

This one was a hard one for me and there are still days where I really have to fight it. For me procrastination was an easy way of quitting with an excuse. There were always so many reasons why I couldn’t and they all seemed good ones at the time, but really all they were, were my justifying the fact that I didn’t believe it could happen for me, so I gave myself a way out. Which leads to……….

Plain Old Hard Work Tweet This

One thing I have learned about achieving success is that it isn’t all glamorous; most of it is hard work and self discipline. (There are still days that those words make me shudder.) Am I going to watch TV or get on the phone and make those calls? Am I going to sit at home and design yet another flyer or am I going to get out and talk to people?

The best way I overcame procrastination was to take a lot of continuous action and then see the results, and when I saw the results it made me want to take more continuous action. I wish I could say that self discipline is my best friend, but I can tell you that we are getting closer everyday.

Not Quitting

I spent most of my life being average. I would do enough to put me in the middle, but when it got hard or obstacles got in my way, I would quit. I wasn’t the best, but it was a lot easier that way. The thing was that I longed on the inside to be successful and at the top. I didn’t understand how other people got there. Again, I thought that they must be special and I wasn’t. What I didn’t know then, but do know, is that they aren’t any more special than I am, it just that they were willing to keep on going even when it was hard and uncomfortable, and that obstacles could never truly stop them unless they allowed them to. There is always a way around, through, under or over any obstacle and it those who don’t quit that win.

So my question to you today is this, “Are you going to do whatever it takes to succeed, or are you going to sit in unbelief, watching TV, wishing you were that special person?”

I know, it’s a in your face question and it might sting, but facing reality is the first step to achieving all your goals and dreams.

To your success,

Love Ya,

Kim Thompson-Pinder

Thanks again to my BFF Juanita Wootton-Radko for another great blog post!

If you are in sales, chances are you know of Jeffrey Gitomer: professional speaker, author, and the driving force behind Sales Caffeine, a weekly “sales wake-up call” for sales professionals of all stripes. When I need a booster shot for my sales techniques, Gitomer is the guru I turn to again and again. Here are two books you should have on your shelf today, and I recommend for everyone, not just entrepreneurs

1. “Quality performance starts with a positive attitude!”
-Jeffrey Gitomer’s Little Gold Book of YES! Attitude

The power of a “Yes! Attitude” was my first introduction the Gitomer philosophy. I have always considered myself a positive person until this book challenged me to test my attitude. While I find it fairly easy to be positive on behalf of my partner or my friends, I have found that I am much harsher when it comes to my own self-talk. Combine that tendency with a bad night’s sleep, a cold, or an unexpected bill and suddenly my ability to be upbeat takes a downturn.
Gitomer says that 50% of effective communication, and 50% of effective customer service— are affected by your attitude. Half of your success in these areas will be determined by your positive attitude. And unlike many other factors, your attitude is entirely under your control. That is a worthwhile investment of your time and effort!

Another important takeaway from YES! Attitude: Say “Thank you” rather than “I’m sorry”. The next time someone yells, or blames you for something, try saying “Thank you. I appreciate you letting me know right away. Let’s work on getting this fixed for you.” It’s a little tricky because our first instinct is to either get defensive (angry) or to submit (show fear). “Thank you” sidesteps both anger and fear. There is an implied apology, and your choice of words is empowering, leading to action, rather than the defeated attitude of “I’m sorry.” You may have made a mistake that needs to be fixed, but resolving the problem will show your sincerity beyond simply saying, “I’m sorry.”

2.“Self-belief is the fulcrum point of success.” Tweet This
-Jeffrey Gitomer’s Little Platinum Book of Cha-Ching!
This second book comes across as written primarily “for business people”. But really, anyone can grow from the lessons Gitomer shares about self-improvement: confidence in your product, in your message and in yourself creates success.
Self-belief comes from inside. Knowing what you believe in, and why it’s important to you is the message you communicate to everyone you meet. Making a deliberate choice in the way you think can change the course of your entire life. Consider this: what could you do if you believed it was impossible to fail?

3. “You already know what to do. Problem is, you’re just not doing it.”
-Jeffrey Gitomer’s Little Platinum Book of Cha-Ching!

Think! Ask yourself questions: am I doing this the best way possible? What would make this experience better: for me, for my spouse, for my clients? Try to think of improvements. It doesn’t always have to be big changes. Lifehacker.com is devoted to hundreds of small, but effective changes that are easy to do.

Read. Read actively, underlining words and phrases that are meaningful to you and make notes on what you have just read. And then read it again, to make sure you fully understand the content of what you read.

Gitomer’s books cover the nuances you might find in the self-help aisle rather than the standard books on sales and marketing. They speak to the human element of business and life success in his unique, down-to-earth style. You can’t learn how to have a positive attitude or become an overnight success in any field just by reading a book, but Jeffrey Gitomer has written some great foundation material to help you launch your dreams.

Check out this great guest post from my BFF Juanita Wootton-Radko.

Being an entrepreneur is fun! Exciting! Profitable! Except… when it isn’t. Every entrepreneur goes through periods where setbacks and struggles are far more common than the fun, profit and excitement. So what’s the secret to staying (or getting back) on track? Invest in your most valuable product: you!

1. Start with better habits.

“We are what we repeatedly do.”  Aristotle

Building healthy habits will give you the energy and strength for the down days. You already know that you should go to bed rather than stay up past eleven playing Candy Crush. A water bottle is a better choice than that third (or was it the fourth?) can of diet cola. Don’t sweat the occasional lapse- but aim for small goals like drinking water and catching all the shut-eye you need really helps you to bounce back.

2. Mistakes are part of the process.

“Do not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”                                                                                                                                                           -Nelson Mandela

When I was a child, I would often help my grandmother by washing dishes. One time, a fancy dessert plate slipped from my hands and smashed on the floor. I began to cry, certain that I would be punished. ‘Don’t cry,” she said.” There’s precious few that get worn out.” Those calm words put the broken plate in perspective and encouraged me to do a better job. You will make mistakes, but they don’t have the power to stop you. You can do it!

3. Stay focused on what really matters.

“Don’t count the days, make the days count.” Muhammad Ali

Keep a list of your priorities for your business. What are the key points for you to be a success? Is it building your client base? Reaching a weekly sales target? Define the “keys” for your business and aim for actions that get you closer to your goal.

4. Don’t give up.Tweet This

“If you can’t fly, then run, if you can’t run, then walk, if you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” Martin Luther King Jr

Don’t give up. Being an entrepreneur can be lonely work. Take a walk around the block, or call a friend in your network who understands but won’t drag you down into a pity party.

5.Watch what you think, as well as what you say

“For success, attitude is equally as important as ability.” Walter Scott

I have a friend who says that he never has bad days. He has good days, great days and “character-building” days. A bad day is something that happens to you, but you get to choose what you get out of a character-building day. It may seem hokey, but word choice matters. Your word choice can portray you as the victim of a cruel and capricious world, or propel you as the hero of the great story that is your life. Be your own hero—we know you can!

Remember, everyone has ‘character-building days’– even entrepreneurs. Don’t let the struggles and setbacks pull your focus from your dream. Keep building your good habits, including the way you talk about your business. Don’t quit! Keep moving forward and soon once again, you will find yourself back on track to fun, excitement and profit.
